2017 Players Hand Book
West Coast Amateur Football Club is committed to provide recreational and sporting facilities for the Club’s members, to encourage the game of Australian Rules Football in our local community, all the way from Auskick up to WAFL level. In doing this, we expect our members to uphold the values that our club holds dear and adhere to the WAAFL's Spirit of the Game statement, with particular emphasis on the values of good sportsmanship, integrity and mutual respect.
The club maintains a strong volunteer culture - many hands make light work. We expect members to treat the club as if it was their own home. You are always welcome, but do not wait to be asked to help - show initiative, take ownership.
Clubs such as ours provide members of the local community with a chance to achieve something, as a group, which is far greater than that which any individual could achieve by themselves. The role of the Committee, Coaches and Leadership Group is to instil the club's values across the broader group, nurturing leadership skills in the next generation and helping to develop our members into well-rounded young men and valued members of the community. Football is simply the vehicle by which we do this. It is every member’s responsibility to ensure that this mantra is passed on to the next generation and that you leave the club in a better position than when you arrived. People pass through the club as part of different eras, but responsibility for the club’s legacy rests with you.
The club has adopted policies in respect of Vilification and Discrimination, Racial and Religious Tolerance, Respect and Responsibility, Disability, Bullying, Risk Management and maintaining a Healthy Club. These policies are available on the club's website and will be reviewed by the Committee from time to time. Members are expected to comply with the requirements of these policies, and may be subject to complaints processes in the event of any alleged breach.
All players who take the field to play for the club must be registered:
The club offers a range of membership levels and payment options. Our preferred method is for you to register online and pay via TidyHQ - https://westcoast.tidyhq.com/public/memberships/new. Otherwise the club has Eftpos facilities where you can pay by card, or give cash directly to the Treasurer.

Volunteering is an important part of being part of our club. It takes a huge amount of time and money to run the club, members' volunteer efforts goes some way towards bridging that gap. Volunteering is also integral to the role we play in the local community, supporting initiatives like Activ City To Surf for many years, and more recently charity events such as the Forever15 game, which raised in excess of $30,000 for brain cancer research.
As part of being a member of West Coast Amateur Football Club, we expect all Tigers to commit to a minimum of 10 hours volunteering over the course of the season. This can be in support of club's on-field or off-field activities, charity work or a combination thereof. Volunteering Coordinators maintain a roster to help during the season.

Training
Game Day
Colts train on Monday and Thursday evenings. 5:15pm, boots on to start from 5:30pm sharp. Seniors train on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Arrive from 5:45pm, boots on to start at 6pm sharp.
Training is not compulsory - this is amateur footy. If you can't make training all we ask is that you let your Coach know by phone/SMS and advise your team mates in the Facebook group.
If you are injured - Diagnosis and rehab program from qualified physio, trainers to oversee rehab. Attend training to complete rehab exercises and work on touch/conditioning (as appropriate). Wear a yellow vest in drills if you are on modified program, so players know you are in recovery.
Team selections take place on Thursday night. If you are unavailble for selection then please let your coaches know well in advance.
Colts are expected to setup bench area for game day (marquees, chairs, etc) and League players are expected to pack it down after games (and return equipment to the club if playing away).
Club uniform is navy blue shorts at home games, white shorts when playing away. Navy blue socks with gold hoops for all games. Club polo and/or tracksuit to be worn on arrival at the ground.
All players must obey the instructions of their Coaches, Team Manager and Game Day Manager
Players are encouraged to arrive early to support the team in prior game, and stick around to cheer in those that follow. If you are asked to run water or help in other ways then please do so.
Presentations take place on Saturday evenings - refer to the Event Calendar for venue and start times, which may differ for home/away games.
The development of our young players is crucial to the club's future. We invest heavily in our coaching staff and have implemented a structured "development pathway" program to support this.
We strive to provide the best environment for young footballers to play at the highest level appropriate
to their ability, age, size and fitness.
How it works
1. Development players identified
2. Players decide if they want to take part in pathway program, parental input required
3. Development players invited to join Senior training - the first step getting used to footy against bigger bodies
4. If/when coaches decide players are ready for elevation to Seniors - Colts players are picked in groups of 3-4. You will NOT be picked to go up by yourself - it is important to have mates up there with you
5. Colts players are elevated to Reserves and given a couple of weeks to settle. If players are comfortable at Senior level and keen to push on then they will be given the chance to push for selection in the League team.
The best way to keep up to date with everything that is happening "down by the sea" is to download our West Coast Amateur Football Club app - this is available in Apple iTunes or Google Play app stores.
We also send semi-regular newsletters and post updates via the West Coast AFC page on Facebook.
For training updates and general banter, players also keep in touch via the West Coast Players Association and Colts private groups on Facebook.
If you are not already a member, ask one of your teammates to add you to the relevant group.
