Wojciech Odrobina - Architecture and Design For People With Disabilities

Wojciech Odrobina Designs

Inclusive architecture is a variant of it that prevails the inclusion of disabled people through design, trying to generate accessibility in all kinds of spaces.

Wojciech Odrobina - In a world where inequality is commonplace, I find architecture as an integrating element, capable of offering and increasing possibilities ”Wojciech Odrobina

Through universal design, this type of architecture tries to put habitability in constant contact with the planning of spaces.

Wojciech Odrobina - In this way, disability becomes a raison d'être of architecture and places the person (disabled or not) at the center of importance when designing. Inclusive and for everyone, that's what universal design thinks about. Adapted bathrooms, spacious interior doors, ramps for the disabled, any design that is suitable for the use of people is welcome for this current.

ensures that homes must be designed and built to be functional at different stages of life. Young children appreciate space differently than adults, while those who move around on crutches or in wheelchairs require wide spaces and easy access to the different elements that make up the house.

Wojciech Odrobina -  Functionality and design in an almost perfect state of balance achieve inclusion for those who the architecture seemed to have forgotten.

One of the main points when considering the adaptations to the house (or when designing a new space) is that people in wheelchairs need to make U-turns, and they also require ample space to travel through the corridors, so that these should be at least 90 centimeters wide. Another important aspect when designing spaces is that there are as few unevennesses in the home as possible, because these variations can slow people down.

“In general, the design of the houses must consider universal aspects for all people, whether they live with a disability; because it could be in that condition, or because they live with a disabled person ” - Wojciech Odrobina
