Magazine articles always feature catchy, attention grabbing headlines / sub-headings. Headlines must summarize the core theme since readers often decide whether to read an article based on the headline, so it should provide a snapshot of the article.
Dividing it into columns makes the article easier to read. A longer column width would make it more difficult to find the next line when you scan back across the page.
Good composition makes use of grid structures / balance / use of white space. A successful composition means that you have arranged, distributed, aligned and compiled your design in a way that looks nice but is also highly functional.
