The Morrow family is planning their annual trip to Walt Disney World

They're interested in Disney's Contemporary Resort

...but they discover its over $500 per night. Sadly, well outside of their budget...

"Maybe we should look into buying the Disney point thing?"

"What's it called again?"

"Oh yeah...

Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points"

They check DVCEasy.com to understand the price of DVC points.

"201 per night??

That's over 50% cheaper..."

"What's the catch...?"

When buying a contract full of DVC points you're essentially buying Disney vacations
"in bulk".

Just like buying food "in bulk" you get a large quantity but it's much cheaper per item.

You get much cheaper

Disney vacations!

Check out the breakdown of this DVC contract.

You get 123 DVC points per year.

...for 36 years!

123 points per year,
for 36 years:

Year 1: 123 points

Year 2: 123 points

Year 3: 123 points

....

Year 36: 123 points

123 Points x $132 per point

= $16,236

123 Points x $132 per point

= $16,236

+ Closing costs

=$17,970...

...to buy 123 points of Bay Lake Tower per year for 36 years

The Morrow family would get 123 points for Bay Lake Tower every year until the year 2060!

$17,970 per year divided by 36 years

$17,970 per year divided by 36 years

=$499 per year

 The catch?

That $17,970 is due upfront when the contract is signed.

After that, the Morrow family will still need to pay
Annual Dues.

Annual Dues are yearly fees per point.

Annual Dues are yearly fees per point.

123 points x $7.59 per point

Annual Dues are yearly fees per point.

123 points x $7.59 per point

= $934 this year

Annual Dues go up around 4% per year

Annual Dues go up around 4% per year

One of the many reasons we built DVCEasy.com is to easily compare ALL of these complicated values.

One of the many reasons we built DVCEasy.com is to easily compare ALL of these complicated values.

...for example, the purchase price of 100 points of Bay Lake Tower and Beach Club seems very similar.

...but the price per night flags that Beach Club is actually much more expensive per night.

It's because you get 36 years in your Bay Lake contract but only 18 in your Beach Club.

...annual dues are also higher for Beach Club, bringing up that per night price.

The Morrows are convinced, they are buying a Bay Lake Tower DVC contract!

They typically vacation in September so they choose Sept 1 - Sept 8th to see how many points they'll need for a Studio room.

They're all-in on Bay Lake Tower so they choose the 3 View options to see the difference in points.

"It looks like we will need a minimum of 100 points, maybe even up to 150 if we splurge on a Theme Park View."

"We sometimes vacation in March too, let's check how different the points are."

"Wow, what a huge difference!

I guess March is a more expensive time to go. Maybe 150 is a good contract size so we can still afford a Standard room in March too."

There is a lot to learn about buying and spending Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points.

Not surprisingly, the Morrows still have a lot of questions...

"Once we have our points, how do we spend them?"

"What if we can't use them one year, do we lose them?"

"How far in advance can we book?"

"Can we spend our points on other Disney resort stays?"
