According to the Population Reference Bureau, the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) is defined as, “the average number of children a women would have assuming that current age-specific birth rates remain constant throughout her childbearing years.” Of simply put, in order for a culture to maintain itself for more than twenty-five (25) years a fertility rate of 2.11 children per family is required.
