UML All Staff Meeting September 16, 2020.
Based on Presentation Given at the WILU Conference - Ottawa, June 7, 2018 How do we maintain space for creative, spontaneous learning in the demanding, assessment driven culture of higher education and academic libraries? In a Freirean view, critical literacy is the opportunity to reinvent the power structures of the classroom. Students and teachers periodically reverse roles, negotiating meaning together. The greater the reciprocity, the greater the possibility for authentic education. In this presentation I will discuss the importance of learner autonomy and how students benefit when librarians relinquish the role of “information literacy expert”.
