Beginning
- Bonnie Lou and Marshall Applewhite both were the starters of Heavens Gate, which started in March of 1975
- They met when Applewhite was in the hospital, and they claimed to have an automatic connection because both believed they were messengers
- Both decided to leave their families behind and start Heavens gate which links mostly to science fiction, flying saucers, and Christianity that characterized Heavens Gate to the end
Spread
- Once they started, both began to travel throughout the US and Canada giving over 130 speeches
- Sept 14, 1975 they presented there plans of the "End of Time"
- April 21, 1976 gathered recruits and announced it was time to prepare for the "Next Level" (Heaven), they began to lose followers after due to strict discipline
- By the late 1970's both Bonnie and Applewhite had split into two smaller groups in separate cities throughout the west
- Then in 1991-1992 the group issued a videotaped lecture series
- By 1993 they were placing ads in newspapers and holding seminars across the country

- Applewhite and Bonnie both thought they were messengers from "The Book of Revelation" so they basically followed what they that was being told
MAJOR BELIEFS
- Strongly believed in the nature of UFO's. Particularly on a story of two witnesses that were killed, were revived three nd a half days later and were sent up to the clouds.
- Believed that the body was only a temporary container for the soul.

As to joining this cult they had to give up family, friends, sexual relationships, and gender. (?)
They also worse uniforms that ere designed to conceal their human form and especially their gender. They had rules that state that they could not contact with the people of the ou7tside world, including friends and parents.

Friday 21st all members visited a restaurant and ordered the exact same meals, they all thought they needed to do this because it would be their last meal before departure.
Next day, Saturday, they
started their process for departure. All 39 dressed identically, all in
black long-sleeved shirts and black sweat pants, with new black and
white Nike shoes. On their left sleeve they also stitched a patch
that said “Heavens Gate Away team.” Which could mean that they
were ready to exit this world. They all packed an overnight bag with necessaries in them such as notebooks, clothing, and lip balm.
Police then found all dead on March 26th in a mansion in a suburb of San Diego, they discovered they have committed suicide
