VTE’s presentation on Open Educational at the Conference of the Library and Information Community of Quebec, November 18, 2015. Description: David Wiley defines Open Educational Resources (OERs) as “learning objects that are published using open licenses”. These are emerging as an important component in most models for universal access to education. Information professionals and educators alike have important roles to play in this field. However, such roles are often tied to traditional learning spaces for learning, including classrooms and libraries. How can we use OERs to broaden the scope of those learning spaces? Can we envision new ways to learn beyond those settings? What new roles for information professionals with easy access to pedagogical material? Participants are encouraged to bring their experience with a variety of resources which could potentially be used in learning contexts. Building on these examples, this group case study will focus on the potential impact of OERs on Quebec’s educational system. Specialists and practitioners from a wide variety of fields can contribute to a deeper exchange of the consequences OERs may have on our society.
