Mise-en-scene for different genre's.

R&b music

r&b artists

Artists such as Beyonce and Rihanna are famously known for R&B music. They both have an insight knowledge on the props they might use, as well as the costumes, locations, lighting, colour scheme, and various other things that may be used in a music video.

Setting:

In terms of setting for the R&B genre

i'd mostly film on the streets or in clubs.

Mostly because its a generic  convention- most R&B songs are filmed in dark places, clubs and on the streets.

Props:

The most common prop used in R&B music videos is  people smoking, cars, weapons- such as knifes or guns can also be used in an R&B music video. If i was to create a video

in this genre, i'd probably use a car as a prop as its a generic feature in R&B music

videos.

Lighting:

Lighting used in R&B music videos can vary, they can be bright and vivid and some can be dull.  I'd make it look vivid, so the audience would't get bored.

Costumes:

Artists go out there way with costumes; each artists tend to have their own unique style. When it comes to costume selecting, they have to wear something that will grab the audiences attention. Most artists tend to wear less clothes to attract a male audience.  They have many different costume changed for different locations. If I had to choose  costumes it'll be something classy yet casual, and very unique.

POP MUsic

POP artists:

Artists such as Foxes and Lady Gaga, Jessy J, Icona Pop are known for their pop music. In pop music videos there isn's a narrative so there's not really a story to be told.

sETTING:

Setting is a key part of a music video for pop songs.

Locations used can vary from clubs, to sets, house parties and so on. If I was to do a pop music video, i'd have at least two different sets, with bright coloured backgrounds, and i'd also use fields or clubs as another location or even a house party.

props:

Props also vary in pop videos, from stage decor to sparklers and anything that looks good visually. For props I would have chosen Colour grenades- which blow colour; this looks amazing visually and gives it a 'pop music video' feel. I'd also use sparklers, fog machines and anything that could look really creative.

Costumes:

Costume wise; I'd like the artists to look really well presented, i'd want them to wear something not too casual but also look really jazzed up, which make up and hair done nicely. There would be many costume changes for different locations.

Lighting

Pop music videos are really vivid with high contrast and brightness. I'd use many different types of light such as low key lighting as well as high key lighting.  Maybe even neon lights, glow sticks etc.

ROCK

ROCK artists

Artists such as Alex Turner, Avril Lavigne and Sleeping with the sirens are rock artists. The rock genre is more distinguished than the others, in terms of Mise-en-scene and lyrics, it's completely different to R&B and pop.

setting

In terms of setting, most rock artists like to perform live rather than have their own music video.  When it's done live, it's normally in a dark room, or concert, which bright lights behind them. If I was to make a video from this genre, I'd have it set on a stage with a dark background and tall spotlights.

props

Most common props used in Rock videos is the band- drums, microphone, guitars, and the base. Because this is a generic convention, i'd also use these props.

Costumes

When analysing the costumes, you can tell that they all wear similar clothing. It's mostly dark, vest tops, ripped jeans or leather jackets etc. I'd also follow the common route for costume wear, to make it look like a Rock video.

Lighting

Most of the time the lighting is bright, the background tends to be black or a dark colour which contrasts with the bright lights. I'd use bright lighting, like spotlight  and high key lighting.

Country

country artists

Artists such as Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran can be seen as country singers- especially Taylor Swift. This genre is normally based around the country side, with generic features such as guitars and nature.

setting

Most of the time, music videos are set in the countryside, either in a country home, farm or even fields.  Sometimes they are set in pubs where the singer does gigs or even in a school environment  and sometimes they are shot in a music studio. If this was the genre of my music video, i'd set it on a field, or meadow.

PROPS

The most common props used is the guitar, it's probably used in every country music video. Therefore, i'd probably use a guitar in my music video.

Costume

Costume wise, girls tend to wear light, floral dresses or skirts, with blouses or long dresses. They have a good sense of style, but with less makeup and light clothing. I'd want the singer to wear light clothing such as skirts and dresses, with light make up on. And if it was male i'd want him to wear a checked shirt or something loose and casual- not too casual though.

Lighting

The lighting used in country music videos are normally natural e.g. sunlight whilst in pop videos it'll be artificial lights. I'd use soft lighting, and maybe add lighting effects in editing.
