What is Temporary work?

Fixed-term contracts were introduced in Spain in the 1980s, as a flexible instrument of our labor market, allowing from a legal point of view, the use of an easy-to-use instrument, since the temporality is lacking. Causality and also having very low or even no costs for eventual dismissals. The result of this process has been the coexistence of two models of clearly differentiated contracts, fixed and Contingent Employment contracts, which represent a third of them.

In the following graph it can be seen that the rate of temporary employment in Spain is much higher, compared to the data offered by the other countries, standing over the years, in a percentage higher than 30%. We can not interpret wrongly the decrease that the temporary rate has had in recent years, since it has not been produced by a better and more appropriate use of the models of labor contracts, but the destruction of jobs has been concentrated, especially at the beginning of the crisis, in these workers.
