In general, this is the name of the IEEE 802.11 standard which is the international standard describing the characteristics of a wireless local area network (WLAN). The 802.11b protocol allows a bitrate of 11 Mbits at 22 Mbits per second, while the 802.11g protocol achieves a theotic rate of 54 Mbps. Some hardware (modem-routers) are already compatible to support a speed of 108 Mbits.
