Internships at startups are HIGHLY VALUED by any size company.

Most important thing: Show your work.
Side Projects are #1, serious thesis or in-class (Web dev, Graphics) projects secondary.

Participate! Hackathons, involvement in UVA tech scene, etc.

Don't Stop Learning

Get on StackOverflow and research + help other developers.

For new skills, consider online programs and/or a coding bootcamp – there's lots of good ones in NYC.
