I teach the world to make Apps with #Angular, #Ionic and #Nativescript through Startupers Academy Conference Speaker and Google Product Strategy Expert
Template for Angular Week 2018
There is no doubt that 2018 is the year when Progressive Web Apps will get the really broad adoption and recognition by all the involved parties: browser vendors (finally, all the major ones), developers, users. And the speed and smoothness of this process heavily depend on how correctly we, developers, use the power of new APIs. The main one in PWA concept is Service Worker API, which is responsible for all offline magic, network optimizations and push notifications. In my session based on accumulated experience of developing and maintaining PWAs we - go through the list of advanced tips & tricks, - showcase best practices, - learn how to avoid common pitfalls, - have a look at the latest browser support and known limitations, - share lots of useful insights. All on the way to the #YearOfPWA, all for delighting our users by the truly modern web applications.

The collection of modern web browsers APIs and set of best practices on creating the applications turned into a new software creation methodology called Progressive Web Apps (PWA). The Service Worker API is a key API of the whole concept. Let me unleash its power for you! But with great power comes great responsibility - trivially, but true: I'll show the examples of how easy the "Progressive" part of the PWA term could become "Regressive", how to fix this, and how to test our Service Worker before deploying your app. First, we'll go through the well-known PWA functionality (App Shell, Offline Cache, Push) with focusing on the pitfalls we could easily get into, and how to avoid these. Next, I'll expand your horizons with the new PWA features, like Foreign fetch, Periodic sync, Navigation Preloads. And again - "handle with care". I'll share the points we have to pay attention to, as well as best practices. As a practical result, you will get a full overview of basic and advanced Service Worker features, as well as knowledge on how to solve a real life project issues in the best possible way. BONUS: I'll share the latest additions to Service Worker and satellite APIs, so you will be ready to build the applications for the future!
It eventually happened: Progressive Web Applications took a worthy place in the modern web landscape, and there is no more need to convince developers why to go for performant, reliable, and engaging apps. Your Angular application is not the exception: adding PWA features is getting it to the next level of user experience. We have at least two very interesting options to get there. First, the native Angular Service Worker (NGSW) by Angular team, super-powered by Angular CLI and some extra ng-pwa-tools. Second, the all new framework-agnostic Workbox library by Google Chrome team. What's easier to set up for your Angular app? What has wider functionality? What's faster and more robust? Let's go exploring, coding and testing! You will have 100% full overview of these two approaches after my session, but the final decision is only yours!
Progressive Web Apps are the next big thing for the web. They combine the advantages of two platforms: searchability and shareability of the web with capabilities and performance of native mobile. As a result, web developers can use their favorite tools to build installable, re-engageable, connectivity independent apps, that can bring native-like performance and user experience.

Awesome! You’ve made it big! You’ve published an open source project and people are actually using it to make the world a better place. Achievement unlocked! Great job! But wait… what’s this? An issue? Oh, it’s just a bug. Pretty quick and easy. Fixed, released, done, #likeaboss 😎. What’s this? A PR? How cool! Wait… That’s not quite right… Oh, a question! Cool! And another! And another… eh… and another… Uh oh… I think I’ve just sold my soul to this project. You start an open source project to scratch your own itch and suddenly other people start using it and they need your help. This can easily start eating up your time big time and before you know it, your kids start feeling neglected. I’ve had to deal with this in a few projects and I’ve learned a thing or two about work/life/oss balance. I have a few tricks that help you make the project manage itself a bit more while still being friendly and helpful to users of the project.
