What have you learnt from audience feedback given?

Once we had edited our trailer for the first time, putting all of the clips in the order we felt they needed to go in and adding in the appropriate music, we then showed this to our target audience to get the appropriate feedback in what they thought needed to be changed. As well as them telling us what they liked and didn't like about the trailer. Now our trailer, magazine cover and poster are now all complete, I am able to go back and explain the feedback they gave and we moved on from this.

Audience Feedback 1 - Structure

The first lot of audience feedback we received was to do with the structure of the clips. The arrangement of the clips made the clips made the outcome look like an opening sequence (what we had produced at AS) and therefore what we would have been better at. One of the main problems we had trying to move forward from this was that we didn't have enough footage to make the trailer look as if it was showing the plot of a whole film. To listen to the audience feedback we had to re-film a lot of the trailer, adding in different varieties of scenes, angles, shots and ideas.

Audience Feedback 1 - Structure (Changes Made)

The images here show the filming we carried out after listening to our audience feedback. These clips allowed our trailer to look more like a trailer and less like an opening sequence. We decided we wanted to film the main character Scarlett on the phone to her friends inviting them round. This would give the audience a clear understanding of the situation of the whole film. It also meant we were able to change the scene of the filming as before the feedback from our target audience there was only one room shown in the trailer. This gave the sense it was more like a trailer than an opening sequence. We were also able to change the variety of shots. This attracted our target audience more as it made it more engaging and much more engaging, showing a much more interesting mise scene and location as opposed to the first draft. It also made the introduction to the main character much easier  and much clearer to our target audience.  The over the shoulder shots and close ups, as well as having the main character look at the protagonists profile, these elements all add up making an element of mystery to our trailer.

Audience Feedback 2 - Text

The second lot of audience feedback we received was regarding the text that we had put in the trailer. In our first draft of our trailer we had one piece of text, which only showed the name of the film 'Narcotic'. The audience feedback we received was to add in more text, in different varieties. We need to make sure we included details such as the dates, etc.

Audience Feedback 2 - Text (Changes Made)

From the feedback we were given, we added in 4 other pieces of text not including the title. By doing this it gave our target audience more information on when the film was being released, as well as adding in questions that would make the audience think and engage them more. We decided to stick with the black and white text and background as it made the information to the audience clear and concise. We decided to change the date of release to red as this is one of the main pieces of information that the audience need when watching a trailer, to continue to watch the film. The rhetorical questions we used in the trailer also relate to films we looked at for inspiration such as 'The Scribbler' who in their trailer also use rhetorical questions which we felt was most effective. Lastly, we also changed the font of the text to make it look more professional, engaging and clear to our target audience.

Audience Feedback 3 - Opening

Some feedback we received from our target audience was to reduce the length of the opening, 'Lionsgate'. With our trailer only being 1 minute long (first draft) the opening of our trailer was nearly half as long as the entirety of the whole trailer. This was feedback we needed to listen too.

As shown from the first to the second draft we did change the length of the opening. In doing so we put a conversation between characters over the top, making the most use of the time we had.

Audience Feedback 4 - Music

The feedback we were given regarding music was positive but again showed room for some improvement. We listen to our audience feedback and changed the music half way through the trailer which is noticeable from the second draft on wards. We decided to add in two different types of music (fast and slower) which we felt helped build tension at first and linked to our genre.

Audience Feedback 5 - Magazine Front Cover

We were given feedback from 2 members of our target audience who both said there were things that needed to be added. This included things like a barcode, more text under the film title at the bottom of the page. They also suggested we added in more text and more information on what was in the inside of the magazine, not just information for the front.

Audience Feedback 5 - Magazine Front Cover (Changes Made)

The magazine cover to the left shows our original work before the audience feedback. The image on the right shows the new magazine cover including the changes made from  the audience feedback. We added in more information the 'Plus' and 'Massive Preview Special'. As well as adding in the barcode and more text below 'Narcotic'.

Audience Feedback 6 - Poster

We only received a small amount of feedback for film poster and this was simple and easy to do. We were asked to change the tag line in the poster to capitals, which was easy for us to do. Other than that the feedback was good and the audience like it.

Audience Feedback 6 - Poster (Changes Made)

The poster to the left shows before the improvements made and the right the one after the improvements. Our poster was similar to the one below, which we felt was attracting and engaging to our target audience.
