- Preserves certain native attributes,
like layers, transparency - Used mostly in print, never web
.PSD
- Native Photoshop file
- Preserves every special attribute
- Openly opens in Photoshop
- Extremely large file sizes,
since all layers, channels, effects,
etc. are preserved
- Best for sending proofs
- Ability to determine how
image is compressed, if at all
- Most portable file: opens on
nearly all operating systems - Mostly used in print

- Allows more precise editing
