GOLD MEDAL RESOURCE: Teaching Books
I chose this site as my top resource because some of the schools I have taught at haven’t always had good resources to go along with the books we were using in Reading class. In many cases, I was left to develop those resources on my own.
I love how you can type in a book and find multiple resources to go with that book. As an example, I typed in the book “Number the Stars” by Lois Lowry. I found author interviews, links to book guides and lesson plans (16 of them), vocabulary lists, and book readings. Other books have resource videos that introduce the story, or even the whole story on video (if it’s a short book). For primary students, these types of resources would really help me to introduce a new book to the class, or add to their understanding of the book. I also appreciate how the books are graded so you know what difficulty level the book is at. This resource is just for teachers, but I think it will be very helpful when I go back to the classroom and need reading resources (assuming I have access at my new school!).
Meeting an author can inherently change a reader's relationship with that author and his or her work. TeachingBooks.net strives to equalize the opportunity for this experience by enabling readers to meet award-winning authors online, anytime. With these experiences, TeachingBooks.net breaks down barriers and builds connections to books and authors to enhance the inspirational and educational opportunities contained in books.
