Conclusions?

  • Most people are moving as a precautionary step away from Twitter rather being pulled by Mastodon or FOSS.
  • It's not the same, so expectations of similarity often lead to confusion.
  • Bulk addition of follows is the best way to recover a feeling of familiarity.
  • Most people will keep their accounts on Twitter to cross-post and keep in touch. And barring radical events, it will be a long fade rather than a sharp break.
