Title Text

Slide design (version 1)
-
Oral presentations differ significantly from written assessment tasks; therefore, they require a different approach than their written counterparts. You cannot simply copy text from your written literature review onto slides and think that it will work well in a presentation.
-
Please remember that your audience is unlikely to be able to read long sentences on the slides and listen to you at the same time. Therefore, they will either listen or read. Not both. Especially if they have to squint.
-
In other words, if you want your audience to listen to you, you should minimize the amount of text on your slides.
-
In addition, if you write out the sentences on your slide exactly as you plan to present them, you are much more likely to read off your slides verbatim. And since most people would not use words like verbatim in their everyday language, this also makes you more likely to sound stilted and like you are reading from the slides.

In presentations, long sentences are a distraction
With a "script" on your slides, it's harder to
speak & engage (a.o.t read)
People generally can't read & listen at the same time
This gets worse with long sentences
...& with small fonts
