HCI College History
HCI College was founded in 1993 as Health Career Institute (HCI). Initially, American Heart Association (AHA) courses were conducted on a custom basis for physicians, nurses, and EMS providers.
In 2016, HCI was granted the ability to award qualifying students Federal Student Aid from the US Department of Education. In 2017, HCI added a branch campus in Lauderdale Lakes.
HCI College History
In 2019, HCI moved its Lauderdale Lakes branch to a newly remodeled facility in Fort Lauderdale. At the same time, due to the commitment to providing quality higher education to the communities we serve, Health Career Institute underwent a name change. Health Career Institute became as it is known today, HCI College.

Diploma Program Overview
Practical Nursing
The Practical Nursing program is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to excel in their nursing careers. With a strong emphasis on hands-on learning and a supportive learning environment, we are committed to helping our students become compassionate and competent nurses.
Upon graduation, the student is awarded a Diploma in Practical Nursing and is eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-PN) to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN) and subsequently seek employment in the field.
The program is designed to provide educational and clinical experiences leading to employment in entry-level positions as practical nurses in hospitals or comparable facilities.
The program combines theoretical instruction with practical clinical experiences and clinical simulation in medical-surgical nursing, pharmacology, medication administration, geriatric and long-term care nursing, and obstetrical and pediatric nursing to ensure a well-rounded education.

HCI College advises you not to enroll if there is a possibility that you have a violation that would disqualify you from meeting the background check requirement. If you are unsure, HCI College advises you to settle any uncertainty prior to enrolling. Similarly, HCI College advises you not to enroll if you believe that you cannot pass the required drug screen.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement
Passing a Level I & Level II background check and the appropriate drug screen are required before a student can enter the PN program or before entering any core nursing classes in the ADN program.
Level I & Level II Background Check and Drug Screen
It is the policy of HCI College to require a background check and drug screen for each student entering the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and the Practical Nursing (PN) programs.
Students whose criminal background checks and/or drug screening that are deemed unsatisfactory will be denied access to entering the PN program or denied access to enter the core nursing classes in the ADN program.
Withdrawal from the program will occur if students cannot meet HCI College's background check and/or drug screening requirements.
Students who decide to move forward with enrollment after having been advised of these requirements and who are later withdrawn for failing a background check and/or drug screen, will be charged for all courses taken with the understanding that they cannot advance in the program.
If there is a record of conviction of crime, the Florida Board of Nursing will determine the graduate's eligibility for certification and/or licensure.
Admissions Requirements - Practical Nursing
• Complete and sign the HCI College Application and Enrollment Agreement packet
• Provide a valid Driver's License or government issued photo ID
• Provide proof of High School graduation, or successful completion of the General Education
Development test (GED), or verification of graduation from an Associate degree or higher
program from an accredited college or university or successful completion of at least 60
semester or trimester credit hours or 72 quarter credit hours that does not result in the
awarding of an associate’s degree, but that is acceptable for full credit toward a bachelor’s
degree at any institution; or enrollment in a bachelor's degree program where at least 60
semester or trimester credit hours or 72 quarter credit hours have been successfully
completed, including credit hours transferred into the bachelor’s degree program.
Acceptance of any of the documents listed above is at the sole discretion of the College.
• Pass the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) with a minimum composite score of 40
(please see the TEAS policy for further information) or meet the requirements for HESI A2
Exam Exemption or become exempt due to having an associate degree (Associate of Science,
Associate of Applied Science, or Associate of Occupational Science only) or higher from an
accredited institution .
• Pass a FDLE Level II criminal background check conducted upon enrollment
• Pass a 10-panel drug screen conducted upon enrollment

Program Overview
About HCI College's Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program
HCI College is institutionally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) and for that reason students in the ADN program could be eligible for Federal Student Aid funds if they qualify.
HCI College is licensed by the Commission for Independent Education as part of the Florida Department of Education.
The ADN program at HCI College is approved by the Florida Board of Nursing (FBoN).
In Florida, Associate Degree Nursing graduates must pass the National Counsel Licensure Exam (NCLEX‐RN) to be licensed as a registered nurse in order to work as a Registered Nurse.
HCI College ADN graduates in good standing are eligible to sit for the NCLEX‐RN exam.
Programmatic accreditation is a specialized accreditation that usually applies to specific programs of study.
Some nursing programs in Florida are programmatically accredited.
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, also known as ACEN is a programmatic accreditor for some nursing programs in Florida.
The ADN programs at HCI College are not ACEN or programmatically accredited. Neither are a requirement in Florida to sit for the NCLEX‐RN exam.
Graduates of HCI’s ADN program in West Palm Beach with NCLEX # US70414600 are eligible to sit for the NCLEX‐RN exam.
Graduates of HCI’s ADN program in Ft. Lauderdale with NCLEX # US70413500 are eligible to sit for the NCLEX‐RN exam.
Nursing
Focuses on: Wellness of self and others; technical nursing skills across the life span in acute care facilities, long-term care facilities and the community environment; critical care concepts; and professional development.
Upon graduation, the student is awarded an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and is eligible to take the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) to become a Registered Nursing (RN) and subsequently seek employment in the field.

Online Science Classes (Anatomy & Physiology I and II, Microbiology) utilize both asynchronous and synchronous delivery methods to support your learning.
Classes will be recorded and then put into the weekly lecture for students to go back and review
Students will not be allowed to miss more than two (2) live classes for the term without proper documentation. If the student misses more than two (2) live classes, they will be dropped from the class.

I understand that I will be required to pass a criminal background check and 10-panel drug screen two weeks prior to starting Nursing core courses as part of my enrolled program at HCI College.
