In The Beginning...

• Cofounded with John Mason
• Katy Hallman joined us right away and was an integral part of making things work for some time
• It grew bigger than anyone imagined
• We began a long-term plan of trying to connect the group to more senior developers
• It is currently focused on connecting the entire community together

Frustrations

• minority representation is exceptionally low
• Continued complaints about white tower syndrome
• Imposter Syndrome, coupled with Overconfidence after a large amount of experience
• Developers are overall hopeful for the future
• Overworked?

Charlotte

• #15 on PCMag's list of top Tech Cities
• We havent done a survey, but we estimated that we have 500+ juniors about a year ago
• Pipeline Problem - Juniors can't find jobs, Companies can't find senior developers
• Lowered wages in Charlotte - I work remotely because I can easily find better paying work elsewhere.

The Future

• Charlotte Devs can be MORE inclusive
• Charlotte Devs needs a sponsorship program
• Charlotte Devs needs more Leadership
• Charlotte Devs needs more volunteers
• It is my hope that we are laying the groundwork for a professional organization much like a bar organization for Lawyers or the various Doctor associations
• Charlotte Devs needs more people with ideas and more people who want to see those ideas happen
