Welcome to SWC
Mission
Make researchers in science, engineering, and medicine more productive by teaching them basic lab skills for scientific computing
Why?
- Scientists spend 40% of their time building or using software
- 96% are mostly self taught
- Standard industry knowledge and practices are not brought to academia
Who we are:
- Volunteer organization
- Scientists teaching scientists
- 281 Instructors have taught a workshop
- 265 Workshops for over 9000 learners
What we teach:
- automate repetitive tasks (shell)
- Track and share work (git and github)
- build modular (and reusable) code (python)
- Curate and interact with data (SQL)
What you can do:
- Become an instructor
- you do not need to be an expert in all subjects
- Contribute to course materials
- Organize a workshop
- Build a community
- Help with astro DC lesson (at hack together day)
