Oh, gee, Algae.

-_- Seriously?

Oh, gee, Algae.

-_- Seriously?

Algae, otherwise known as that green stuff, slimy nasty plant, red blob, stuff, and ew gross look at that. Oh and known as Algae in the scientific community, stemming from the kingdom Protista. Exciting, I know.

The latin word "Alga" (minus the e) means seaweed... "Algae" also means pain and grief according to the Ancient Greeks, but they're not around and therefore, their opinion has lost its validity in this context.  (Not really but who cares what they think about algae, they're dead.)

The plural of Algae is Algae. A group of Algae is also Algae. And Algae, is once again, known as Algae.

It's appearance generally consists of being slimy, green, red, brown, or blue, and fuzzy under water. Some forms are somewhat bubbly, others are more seaweed-like. All are Algae. :)

Algae will grow like a weed, covering anything and everything until it is stopped... Average size: Varying and Indiscernible. Average Cell size: 0.2 to 2 micrometers.

Shapes can vary, can be both asexual and sexual. Also can be unicellular and multicellular. Uncanny ability to be very slimy. Those that move often either excrete fluids or us flagellum, a tail like structure common to many moving plants. Moves incredibly slow.

Algae, part of the lowest trophic level, is a photosynthetic plant (autotrophe), and a keystone species that coral reefs depend on. Algae can be found all over the world including the north and south pole. Basically owns the housing market. Can grow most anywhere and are commonly found in, ponds, lakes, beaches, rivers, streams, coral reefs, and your fish tank.

Algae life cycle:

Lifespan: few days to 10+ years... depends on variant. Considered to be no standard lifespan.

Algae is a slimy, disgusting, and sometimes beautiful mess that tastes awful due to those nasty chems they are always on... But seriously they have chemicals in them to taste bad. Uh, Some glow... not a defense mechanism, they just glow... Pretty. It's Algae, zooplankton, crustaceans, and small fish will dominate it... I mean that they will feed on its... slime? They eat it. Ok?!

Due to rate of growth and the mass variety of Algae, it is not going extinct anytime soon... except in the case of global warming but that's totally no real of course.
