CSSA: What is it?
California State Student Association
- Each campus sends a voting representative, and the Associated Students President
- For our campus, that is Ian and myself
- Board of Directors, Special Officers, Executives
- Each month, we travel to one of the 23 CSU campuses, meeting to pass legislation and advocate for students
Recent successes
- AB 2813- bill that raises the Cal Grant age eligibility from 24 to 27 years of age
- AB 970- bill establishes the 18-month moratorium on Student Success Fees
- AB 844- bill makes it clear that all students, including AB 540 students, may serve in student government
- Promoted the Affordable Learning Solutions campaign to help connect students to low cost and free course materials
SIRF
- Student Involvement and Representation Fund
- $4 voluntary fee that students will be asked to pay
- Right now, CSSA is funded by dues from AS, and the Chancellor's office equaling about $600k
- We need a sustainable funding source, that is also independent
- Even if 60% of students opt out, we will still gather enough revenue
Common misconceptions
- CSSA is one big party
- Since I am not involved in politics, this is not a relevant thing for me to attend
- CSSA does not really matter
