PITCH DECK
THE UBER FOR MEDICAL MARIJUANA

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Kushly is a location-based mobile app for marijuana delivery.

The app enables quick purchase and delivery of marijuana without the need to travel.  Customers simply purchase the marijuana product they want within the app, and then based on their mobile GPS location, a nearby delivery agent connected to a dispensary is hailed to their location to complete the delivery in a timely manner.

PROBLEM

Over 87 percent of medical marijuana use is for the treatment of pain, with a majority suffering from illnesses that impair mobility

Both medical and recreational users risk drugged driving convictions if they drive to a dispensary location after running out of marijuana.

Retail marijuana sellers struggle with high leases, security expenses, and zoning regulations that attempt to push their business out of prominent locations.

SOLUTION

Kushly is a location-based mobile app for medical marijuana delivery.  The app allows lawful medical marijuana patients with valid prescriptions, or recreational users in permitted jurisdictions, to order marijuana that’s quickly delivered to their location.

Kush.ly provides a quick and frictionless way for marijuana sellers to conduct businesss, reducing the likelihood of their business activity attracting the attention of local zoning ordinances.

PRODUCT

Kushly's customer experience resembles a service similar to Uber.  Medical marijuana users who download the app will register within the app, verifying that they are lawful medical marijuana patients.  In jurisdictions that allow recreational use, user registration restrictions will be relaxed for more general use accordingly.  Within the app patients are shown a map of their location, with nearby delivery agents or producers in their vicinity flagged for their attention.  Users can browse product selections among nearby competing marijuana producers, and select the product they like the most. Using the GPS on the customer’s smartphone, once a purchase is finalized, delivery agents are hailed to the user’s location to deliver the product in a timely manner.

HOW IT WORKS

COMPARABLE START-UP

WASH.IO
Washio had previously raised $550,000 in a seed round, bringing total funding to $2.8 million.

MARKET TRENDS

Public attitude polling data among western nations has discovered a strong generational shift in favour of marijuana legalization among Generation X, Generation Y and Baby Boomers.

In 2011, Gallup reported for the first time in history that a majority of U.S. citizens now support marijuana legalization.  Last year, public s
upport shifted in favour a record-breaking 10% in one year.  New medical marijuana treatment discoveries, along with new states permitting medicinal and recreational sales is creating a lucrative opportunity.

In 2013 U.S. legal marijuana sales stood at $1.53 billion, growing 64% over 2012—faster than smartphones.  ArcView Market Research projects that 16 states will allow recreational sales of marijuana within five years, growing the U.S. legal market into a
$10.2 billion dollar industry, growing 700% over its 2013 size.   The total U.S. marijuana market is estimated to be worth at least $30 billion dollars.

"Widespread legalization within the U.S. is not a matter of if, but rather, when"

Method 1: DELIVERY

The primary feature with Kushly will be to have marijuana delivered to a customer based on their mobile location. To order through delivery, a customer will first select a marijuana product they want to purchase from a list of nearby delivery agents, with the app letting the user know if a delivery agent is available to process an order immediately.  When a user has selected a product from a delivery agent, they place an order through the app, which notifies the delivery agent.

Method 2:  IN-STORE

Similar to how Starbucks allows users to pre-order their coffee order before arriving to a Starbucks location, Kushly will support retail marijuana locations who want to allow users to also make in-store purchases.  The fulfillment process is much less complex, and will use a QR code confirmation that processes the transaction once the customer arrives to the store.  This system brings advantages when it relates to marijuana sellers who make customized preparations that contain marijuana products

The Kushly app is entirely free to download.   Our business involves taking a transaction fee on every transactions that occurs between delivery agents and customers.  Currently Kush.ly's transaction fee is 15%, with 7.5% borne by the user, and 7.5% borne by the delivery agent -- a lower fee than the 20% transaction fee of Uber and Lyft.

BUSINESS MODEL

Average purchase order per MM customer per month: $245.

ArcView Market Research projects that 16 U.S. states will legalize recreational sales by 2018.  With a 20% market penetration at a 15% transaction fee:

Kush.ly will make $3.04 Billion in Gross Revenue,
retaining $306 million in fees.

Even without the widespread proliferation legal marijuana, the medical marijuana market by itself is large enough to make Kush.ly a significantly profitable company.
