Coach Erik ten Hag has expressed a positive stance on his future.
Reporter Fabrizio Romano, who is fluent in the European transfer market, delivered Ten Hag's remarks on the 4th. According to Romano, Ten Hag said, "I think I will continue to manage Manchester United next year. I consciously signed a long-term contract and I am not the one leaving."
Ten Hag has been suffering from rumors of his replacement from the beginning of the season. The reason was his performance. He had been defeated by weak teams due to unconvincing performance in the league in the early days of the season, and was eliminated by fourth place in the UEFA Champions League group league. He also packed early on in the English Football League EFL Cup, where he won the trophy last season.
Performance was another issue. Manchester United has 52 goals in the league this season. It has played 34 games and scored just 52 goals, the same as Brentford in 16th place. The score is the same as a team competing for relegation. Manchester United have rarely won a comfortable victory in a series of poor games throughout the season.
Despite sufficient support, Ten Hag has been sluggish. When Ten Hag took charge ahead of the 2022-23 season, United paid a huge fee for him. He spent 95 million euros 140 billion won to recruit his new student, Antony, and he also spent a lot of money on recruiting Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro.
The same was true this season. He paid 73.9 million euros 108 billion dollars to recruit Mason Mount, which Ten Hag strongly wanted. He also brought in Andre Onana and Rasmus Hoyleun. Ten Hag has spent 445 million euros 650 billion dollars on the transfer alone since his inauguration. As his performance is not as good as investment, it was only natural for him to be replaced.
To make matters worse, Ten Hag's future has become more unclear as Sir Jim Ratcliffe took office as co-owner. Sir Ratcliffe, who watched the 3-3 match against Coventry City in the FA Cup semifinals in person, reportedly contacted Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel after the match.
Despite rumors of his replacement, Ten Hag was confident. He called himself "not a person who leaves," vowing that he could take the helm again next season.
Regarding the recent rumor of Ajax's return, he said, "No. However, it could happen in the future. It was an attractive club and I had a great time."
