'In order to respond to global crises we will need to
transform education.
I believe the CBE peer dialogue method can make
a significant contribution in that process.’

Online interactions offer incredible potential for learning.
If not facilitated, they also pose challenges:
ONLINE INTERACTIONS
Creating emotional distance between participants
Exacerbating online fatigue, disengagement and loneliness
Highlighting (& possibly stigmatising) cultural and social differences
Causing people to feel a lack of authenticity
Setting an impersonal tone for dialogue

We have built our methodology to address those challenges.
RESPONSES
Peer led processes to strengthen motivation
Consistent small groups to build relationships
Group agreements to support trust building and safety
Emotional prompts to inspire personal involvement
Awareness activities to sensitize for self and other

Additional responses to challenges include:
RESPONSES (cont.)
Participatory Culture to continue engagement
Peer videos to model empathic dialogue
Reflection moments to prepare contributions
Practical design to support the communication process
Open spaces to harvest insights

Storytelling to connect people deeply in their narratives
Reflection moments to prepare contributions

We suggest co-designing an approach with you to meet
the Mental Health & Wellbeing Strategy ambition.
OU-CBE Collaboration
I. DEMO: 12 students
II. PILOT: 200 students
III. SCALING: 2000+ students
Each phase will be shaped by practical application, assessment and adaptation to students' changing needs.
This approach can build upon the OU mentoring pilot underway.
