4. Who would be the audience for your media product? & 5 How did you attract / address your audience?

The audience for my media product is mainly made up of working class teenagers from the C2DE category as from my T.A Questionnaire I saw that they are mainly interested in hip hop magazines. Furthermore, to push my product further I have aimed it at 16 to 19 year-olds of both genders. These people would most likely spend their spare time with friends, at home listening to hip hop or going out with friends and family. Their favourite movie genres would include action, drama and comedy as these are somewhat crucial elements of most hip hop music. As they are quite a young audience it is possible that they belong to the ‘Mainstream’ and ‘Aspirer’ categories from Maslow’s Audience Types Theory.  The audience for my media product is mainly made up of working class teenagers from the C2DE category as from my T.A Questionnaire I saw that they are mainly interested in hip hop magazines. More details of this can be seen in my pre-production work...

After conducting my Target Audience Research I saw that the results reflected the users' preferences.

"The answers to my first question have lead me to decide to stick to the genre of hip-hop for my magazine. "

"The results show me that my TA are more in favour of "Beat Trip", so this will probably be the title of my magazine."

"These results suggest that my TA would prefer a simple colour scheme which consists of red, white, blue, and black tones. This is interesting to me as hip hop magazines I have seen in my research have also used similar colours."

I based my media product off of mainly audience research and feedback after every stage (e.g. see "Double Page Spread Feedback" post on Blog) to ensure I was always producing content that people in my T.A category would appreciate.

I have worked to attract my audience by making sure the outfits included in the final product are trendy and popular to interest the mainstream audience type (from Maslow's Audience Type Theory). Furthermore, I made sure that I used musicians that are known globally on my cover and contents pages to appeal to the aspirer type. In my magazine I have both male and female models ranging from the ages 16 to 18, this fits in with my target audience almost perfectly and so will be of advantage to me as it will make it easier for them to relate to the magazine.
