Points

  • 7 points due in May
  • All unfinished points from last semester will be added to this semester's requirement but doubled (and you will receive a demerit)
  • Demerit conferences have taken place. If you have three or more demerits and would like a conference, please let one of the officers know.

Seniors:

  • If you are applying for the scholarship, you must complete all points AND have 0 demerits over the past 2 years
  • If not, you still need to complete points in order to receive a cord and receive 2 or fewer demerits this year

  • After-meeting activity!
  • 3-4 Page Study guides over a pre-approved math topic (email us beforehand with your idea!)
  • Upcoming Competitions
  • Highlands Elementary School Volunteering
    • ​You can get YES hours from this too!
    • Email MAO if you are interested

Senior Scholarships

  • More information and application will be sent out soon
  • Scholarships of up to 500 dollars
  • Must have completed all your points and have no demerits for the past two years
  • Application will be due in the spring, and we will hold interviews with eligible candidates

T-Shirts

  • T-shirts have arrived! We will hand them out before the activity.
  • We have a list of people who have paid dues, so if you haven't paid dues, you won't be receiving a T-shirt!

  • Events: Number Sense, General Math, and Calculator
  • Elkins TMSCA is in person at Elkins High School on Saturday, February 4th.
  • Scores will be used to help decide UIL teams.

AIME

For those who qualified, we have sent out emails.

 

You will be excused from 5th, 6th, and 7th periods. You will not be excused from your first four classes. More information regarding AIME will be sent out via email to qualifiers.

 

Mathematical Minutes Video Contest

The Math Minutes contest is a video contest hosted by the National Mu Alpha Theta organization. Create an entertaining and educational 2-5 minute video. There are significant prizes and you can earn up to 3 points for a good video!

You can work in a group of any size. The top 3 videos from our school will be sent to represent our chapter.

Send your video to us by Feb 26th, and we will submit the best videos to the competition by Feb 28th

Math Bash

  • We are in the process of confirming a date
  • Dulles MAO is planning to host a math competition for elementary and middle schoolers
  • This contest will be called the Dulles Math Bash!
    • 2 Individual Round: 1 Traditional and 1 Fun Round
    • 1 Team Round
    • A Smackdown Round
  • Competition will take place on April 15th!
  • The theme will be the Solar System
  • Roles: Proctor, Writer, Grader, Tab
  • Participation is mandatory for everyone
