WE ARE

The Association “Futuro Solare N.P.O." has been operating in Siracusa since 2005 with te aim of experimenting with technologies capable of recharging energy on board on light electric traction quadricycles, exploiting the photovoltaic conversion in a fab-lab style garage granted
by the Municipal Administration
of Siracusa.

The association supports itself with the self-taxation of members and with the economic and technical contributions of private companies.

MISSION

The Futuro Solare team is made up of enthusiasts, engineers, university and high
school students who have designed and built
a low-cost electric
drive car from photovoltaic conversion from scratch, Archimedes 1.0.

The Association actively involves university and high school students with theoretical and practical research.

Enrich the school education of students
with skills that can also be used
in the job market;

PURPOSE

Favor the orientation of young people to enhance their personal vocations, interests and individual
learning styles;

Realize an organic link between the educational and training institutions with the world of work and civil society, which allows the active participation of the subjects in the training processes;

Correlate the educational offer to the cultural, social and economic development of the territory.

SHARE

Futuro Solare has promoted and promoted information, dissemination and awareness campaigns focused on the topic of renewable energy and sustainable mobility, especially in schools and universities, activating
collaborative projects with Sicilian universities and activating P.C.T.O. (paths for transversal skills and for orientation)
with local technical institutes, accompanying students in the realization of degree thesis and exam preparation, with the possibility of optimizing and verifying the results experienced thanks to the collaboration of important Italian
companies and foreigners who contributed with economic means and technical materials.

SOLAR CAR ARCHIMEDE

Archimede 1.0 is a prototype of a car whose only form of energy used to move and manage the vehicle is that obtained from photovoltaic panels that power an electric motor through an energy management system designed entirely in Siracusa's laboratory.

Following the tests carried out at the Pergusa racetrack, Solar Car Archimede has benefited from all the aerodynamic and energy improvements necessary to make it a highly efficient and performing vehicle.

RESEARCH

Our research is aimed at the possibility of use common, recyclable materials with low environmental impact
and low costs, in order to create a final product with the ability to be easily reproducible by other schools or universities that want to start similar experiments.
Archimede 1.0 Solar Car is, in fact, the first prototype of
photovoltaic four-wheel drive vehicle made with low-cost technologies and materials.

COMPETITIONS

The European Solar Challenger of Zolder in Belgium, in 23-25 September 2016, was the first sector competition in which Archimedes 1.0 participated, confronting other teams from the most prestigious European universities, achieving the objective of testing and improving its road
performances and promoting the spirit of experimentation and the diffusion of means powered by
renewable energies on a popular scale.

All this made this project open source and created a collaborative network with the main European universities and technical specialization schools with which we were confronted.

IESC 2016 - European Solar Challenge

All the excellences in the field of scientific research
and European energy innovation were present at the event.
Archimedes 1.0 traveled 422 km, consuming 18,327 W and self-producing 8,598 W with only 10 hours of total solar irradiation out of 24 of the race.

This represents a success since highlights that with a budget of only 15,000 it has been possible to compete with teams that have committed huge economic resources that go beyond the 200,000 of investments.

AWARDS

Futuro Solare has received mentions and visibility in scientific journals and national and international web publications, and was also awarded the "Captains of the Year" award for innovation in 2016, sponsored by the University of Modena Reggio Emilia.

Futuro Solare was also included in the research carried out by Enel and the Symbola foundation on 100 Italian excellence in the sustainable mobility sector entitled “100 Italian E-mobility Stories ".

To IESC 2018 - European Solar Challenge

Futuro Solare shared with the students of the "Enrico Fermi" Industrial Technical Institute in Siracusa, all the design and construction phases of a CRUISER SOLAR CAR, called "ARCHIMEDE 2.0", with a transfer of knowledge and technical information.
The association has created parts and studied innovative technologies which, tested on the old car, led to the transformation into Archimedes 1.1, which made it possible to participate again in the
European Solar Challenge 2018.

We again faced the European challenge in September 2018 even more motivated and with a more competitive car, although remaining in low cost mode we managed to end the race in prohibitive weather conditions and rank 14th overall out of 22 participants and 8th in our category.
This allowed us to acquire important data to be used
for the version of Archimede 2.0.

IESC 2018 - European Solar Challenge

A story of a close-knit team, an almost impossible challenge, clashing with teams with very high budgets.
But we believed in it completely,

when the checkered flag closed the race proclaiming us the best team 2018 with the Spirit of Event 2018 award.

On the legendary Zolder track in Belgium, solar cars can show their full potential in 24 hours of competition during the Challenge, each team can make
a maximum of 2 stops for charging.

Futuro Solare will be present with Archimedes 2.0

NEW CHALLENGE

With the new Archimedes 2.0 Car we intend to travel the 3000 km of the race course, a route that crosses the Australian deserts from Darwin to Adelaide, in the legendary Stuart High way.

The efficient balancing of energy resources and weighted consumption are the key to success during the race.

The world's first solar-powered sports spider 45% made from 3D printed hemp and corn based bioplastics.

It will be a real traveling laboratory, where students will be able to deepen their studies and research in the chemical,
mechanical, electronic and computer science field.

ARCHIMEDE 2.0

Futuro Solare has entered into a three-year agreement
stipulated with the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Palermo and in particular preparatory to the Degree course in Electrical Engineering for e-mobility, research will be carried out aimed at the parameterization and efficiency of synchronous motors / three-phase asynchronous and BLDC motors.

The study of stator designs designed to minimize saturation losses, study of magnetic confinements applied
to permanent magnets
, optimization of rolling frictions,
mass reduction, and design of electronic switching
controls in Mosfet and SiC technology.

We believe that it is important to carefully calculate and verify the entire production chain of a car, it is important to know the impact it produces on the environment during all its phases from design to operation, but it is also important to evaluate the environmental impact during the its disposal at the end of its life, for these reasons our studies are oriented towards the search for innovative and natural technical materials such as hemp and jute assembled with natural adhesives, with new production techniques such as 3D printing and rapid prototyping. We would like to convey our research and discoveries in the spirit of sharing.

This is our challenge our project must face and develop a collaboration between taught student researchers who share the need to develop a science open to society.
If we want change, understood as improving the social, environmental and economic conditions of our
territories, it is necessary to place our trust on the innovative capacities of our young people.

The only true inexhaustible resources of progress and civilization.
