They mentioned that the library had a makerspace and it was open THAT DAY.

My "Resister" friend and I decided to go there that afternoon and see whats haps...
BLDG61 blew our freaking minds!!!!
First we designed a model in Tinkercad and exported in .STL format
Then one of the librarians helped us finalize the model for the 3D printer. Some of the recessed portions needed some "support structure" that could be pried away after printing
We then sent the job to the printer, but had to wait until the temp was high enough to change the printer color, and then squeeze out the little bit of remaining color from the previous job. Once that was done, we could start the print job.
The printer we used was the LulzBot Mini, here shown with the black plastic used in my print
The printer started by making a base to support the object while printing. Most of this would eventually be broken away...

you can see the line around the star where the base would be broken away here. In the middle of the star, you can see some support structure that will also be broken away after printing.
The sound that the printer made was pretty cute!!!
I can't believe I modeled and printed something the same day I found out about BLDG61! The librarians there are so super nice and I can't wait to work with them more.
