DGMD S-15 Project 2016

By Eric Jonassen

The Idea

The Craft Beer trend has gotten huge: many bars have 50+ taps of obscure beers ... how do you pick out beers you might like?

Above: Meadhall in Kendall Sqare, 110 taps

Currently

Sit in a bar for 20 minutes reading reviews?

What's Needed?

A Site that is:

  • Easier to Use
  • Faster to find information with
  • More social/people driven
  • More relevant information (not reviews or arbitrary scores)

Suggestions Example

1000 total "sets of favorites"

100 of those include "Yuengling Lager"

Of those 100:

28 also include Brooklyn Lager

23 also include Fat Tire Amber

etc.

Suggestions Example 2

Same as the first example, but repeated for each of the beers on my "favorites" list.

Duplicates are added together, and the resulting list is  sorted in descending order by number of occurrences.

The Data

Because this project depends entirely on the data behind it, sets of "favorites" are needed before it really becomes usable. As the project progresses and users enter their favorites on the site itself, better (and more) data will become available, but some initial data is needed to get the site up and running.

Where can I get this data? One simple method would be to run a survey: if you'd like to help, check out the link below to take a very short survey.
