His works were published in a huge volume called "Kosmos" in which he stated the principles of Biogeography and the scientific observation of Earth

He was one of the first people to propose that South America and Africa were once together

His brother Wilhem, who was a philosopher and linguist, often travelled with him studying indigenous languages

And there are lots of animals, plants and places (like a river, a bay, various mountains, cities, waterfalls, a glacier...)

called after him
