This is  where the American Alligator lives.

The american alligator prefers to live in warmer wet climates. It lives in the southern east part of America.

The Alligator food chain

Here is a good food chain image. It shows where the american alligator is in this food chain.

Did you notice that the american alligator is at the top of the food chain? This is because of it being a meat eater, or a carnivore. It's ways to kill it's prey are very deadly!

Now it is time for american alligator fun facts!

An american alligator female can lay up to 90 eggs.

An average american alligator male can weigh half a ton and grow to almost 12 feet long.

An american alligator female takes care of their young by holding them in their mouths.

There is a rare chance that an American alligator can become albino!

American alligators were once endangered, then they were recovered. I will being showing 3 groups that helped to bring back the american alligator population. The american alligator population is now estimated about 5 million now.

Zoos' and wildlife refugees help to protect the american alligator population by protecting them. It can make them live almost 40 years longer!

There is a job for any species of alligator ( including american alligators! ) that are about keeping the alligators in a large pen, and to feed and move the alligators.

There is a service called the  U.S. Fish and Wildlife service. This was the group that helped to bring back the american alligator species back from being endangered.
