What is Society?

What is the Reason Behind?

Adam Smith

Bring him [solitary man] into society, and he is immediately provided with the mirror which he wanted before.

    • Human is social by its nature.
    • Our ideas are formed by our environment.
    • We need criticism of others.
    • We need love and admiration.
    • We need spectators.

John Locke

[...] agreeing with other men to join and unite into a community for their comfortable, safe, and peaceable living one amongst another, in a secure enjoyment of their properties, and a greater security against any that are not of it.

    • Human have avoided the state of nature.
    • We choose to live together.
    • We create laws to preserve the society.
    • We sacrifice some of our freedoms.

Karl Marx

By producing their means of subsistence men are indirectly producing their actual material life. [...] The nature of individuals thus depends

on the material conditions determining their production.

    • Human is conscious.
    • We produce and differ from animals.
    • The division of labor.
    • We need to be together to exchange.
