Target Audience Feedback

We decided to collate some target audience feedback as we felt this would give us a good idea of what we need to improve on before we create our final cut. We chose to get feedback from Chess, Beth, Charley and Dan. All of these represent the indie genre and listen to indie music, making them ideal candidates to give us feedback, enabling us to get honest feedback about the quality of our music video, and if it it conforms to the indie music genre and looks similar to other indie music videos.

The questions asked are as follows:

1. In what ways do you think our music video fits into the indie genre?

The response we got was that the shot types, mis-en-scene and clothing we had used worked well for the indie genre. We were also told that the outdoor locations and the narrative featuring a love story conformed to the indie genre.

2. Do you think the performances are believable?

We were told that in some instances, when the couple were playing guitar that perhaps the performances looked slightly unrealistic, but overall the performance was good.

3. Do you understand the story behind the narrative?

We found out that the story of a couple who had broken up was clear, however the reason why the boy is leaving/where he was going was unclear.

4. How do you feel about the narrative? Are there places we could improve?

The target audience told us that perhaps we should make the narrative clearer.

5. Do you feel the narrative coheres with the lyrics of the song?

The overall feeling was that yes, it does, because the love story represents the emotive lyrics.

6. Do you think the lip syncing is believable?

The general consensus was that yes, it was believable, however there were a few moments where it could be improved, as it was slightly off.

7. How could we improve our rough cut?

We were told all of the above answers, and also to sort out a minor editing glitch.

8. Do you think the pace of the edits fit the pace of the song?

The answers we received was yes, it does, as we have done slow edits to match the pace of the song.

9. Do you think there are any other shots we could use that would fit the genre?

We were told the close up shots we'd used were effective as they relayed emotion, and that we have a nice variety of shots, however we could try using a few different angles or movements.

Our target audience is beneficial in helping us improve our music video.

We now aim to:

  • Use a variety of shots
  • Use footage with better lip syncing
  • Try and create a more clear narrative within our music video
