Search strategies

  • Use " " to keep words together; * for all possible endings
  • Make 1 change to your search at a time to see what happens
  • Think about why your search has turned up certain results
  • Try being more specific, and less specific
  • Use quotation marks to keep words together
  • Use a new line for each concept or idea
  • Try searching with filters, and without filters
  • Look through all results, not just 1st 5!
  • Keep track of your sources as you find them

Cite your sources in APA

Next class!

  • While you are searching this week, write down 1 or 2 problems that arise. Next week we'll problem solve in class.
    • Be specific (eg write down your search terms)
    • Try to avoid questions that are too 'tech-y' like error messages
