    VISION

To develop the best talent-grooming engine in the tech world.

    MISSION

    • Iteratively develop an career development program that aligns individual and company goals
    • Facilitate rich learning experiences that strengthen relationships and culture
    • Come up with ever-improving ways to grow the talent of our team
    • Develop craftsmanship and leadership:
      • "We create great software."
      • "We develop craftspeople who create great software."
    • Establish TWG as a thought-leader across different tech disciplines
    • Empower TWG to deliver increasingly more value in the services we provide

    Rationale

By developing a more formal education and career development, we will:

    • Craft a distinct culture around learning, improvement and knowledge transfer
    • Enable our team to keep up to date with a rapidly changing industry, honing existing skills and also developing new ones
    • Incentivize and empower team members to direct their own career development
    • Build a formidable library of physical and digital resources and services
    • Develop craftsmanship: “We develop crafts(wo)men who create great software”

    Rationale

    • Align the career goals of team members with client work
    • Create other in-house opportunities for practice, experimentation and collaboration, that might otherwise not be possible with client work
    • Use team-wide experimentation and collaboration exercises to help solve company and bizdev challenges
    • Create some kind of standardization around the skill development of different roles
    • Work with employees to set realistic goals and help achieve ‘em (with accountability)
    • Nurture helpful, communicative, learning-based relationships within the company

    Rationale

    • Improve staff morale, loyalty and retention (“My company supports my long-term goals.”)
    • Help inform individual performance reviews with more detailed skill development histories
    • Promote our company’s reputation as a powerful talent-grooming engine
    • Increase our company’s presence and thought leadership at industry events

      MENTORSHIP

      • Skill development roadmaps

        • Took a first pass at most of the roles at TWG (thanks to the folks who helped)

        • Scott/Chris M. have created a 2.0 version. We want all roles to get to this, eventually.

        • With that in mind, we will use the “Developer” role as the first test of a mentorship program

      • Learning with Professor Tadman

        • Scott will spend 1.5 hours/day mentoring devs

        • Use skill development roadmaps to help guide the process and find areas to focus on

        • Apprentices will go through a 3-month primer

          • More class-style

          • Project-based learning

        • Juniors will work with Scott, too

          • Get help on production problems

          • Production pairing

      • Use the learnings from the first

      GOALS over next 3 months

      7. More “What I learned/Accountability” demos on Friday from TWG EDU activities (knowledge-transfer)

      8. Develop 2.0 versions of skill development roadmaps for all roles at TWG

      9. Gather feedback about TWG EDU throughout
