Stereotypes

In my opening sequence, there are a variety of stereotypes which stick to the conventions. This includes the idea of the men In suits portraying 'gangsters' along with the idea that the biggest among them in size is the most powerful. We also see that when it comes down to the chase scene, the boss' main henchman (of whom arrives on the motorbike in the establishing shot) does not participate in the chase. This is typical as main henchmen tend to stand by the boss whilst the other soldiers do the 'dirty work', and are looked as irrelevant;  as we see at the end when the boss shots one of them.

Male

Stereotypes

There are also a variety of female stereotypes used in my opening sequence. Usually in thrillers women are represented as vulnerable, weak and emotional, which can be seen in a variety of areas in my thriller. Through the use of camerawork and mise en scene. Mise en scene involves the use of props, costume, location and lighting. The ratio of males to females shows the unbalanced power which reflects the way that females are represented in society.

Female

Todorov's

My opening sequence uses Todorov's Theory which sticks with the conventions of a thriller. The disruption of the equilibrium occurs when the female protagonist can be seen taking pictures of the group of men. To which the men then recognise the disruption, and in an attempt to repair the damge, the men chase the female protagonist to restore the problem, however this goes wrong with them failing to capture her. A new equilibrium is set when the boss decides to shoot one of the soldiers for allowing the female protagonist to escape with the memory card containing the pictures.
