MV Treasure

MV Treasure was a cargo ship. On Friday, June 23, 2000 the ship was damaged in storms and afterwards sank. The ship sank off the coast of South Africa between Dassen and Robbem islands. The ship's crew were airlifted to safety. The ship spilled over 1,300 tons of bunker oil, which immediately oiled thousands of animals on and around the island.

Impact Economically
The oil disaster affected the cellular function of the killifish, a common fish at the base of the food chain. It also harmed the development of larger fish. Also it had caused a lot of money, and a lot of oil was spilled.
The Cleanup
Different types of methods were used in the cleanup, two of which included workers loading kelp covered in oil into trucks and vacuumed up pools of oil with specially designed vacuums. Booms were used to keep the oil from entering other areas. A South African company helped clean up the spill that was polluting the penguins habitats. The company used Bio-Matrix to clean up. The International Bird Rescue Research helped organize the rehabilitation effort of over 20,000 oil penguinns. It was funded by the IFAW.l, the government, and other companies. some people donated money
Awarness
The government Troed their best to stop the media. The public got notified about the spill pretty fast. The public volunteered to clean the oil spill. They had secured the area that had oil on it. They had signs up telling not to go near cause of the spill.
Globally Impact
The oil made the water dirty and brought chemicals. Food sources are in water and the marine life gets affected which becomes a problem. The earth gets polluted. A lot of money was used and if the oil spill hadn't happened then all of it would be saved. The oil was also wasted.
