Educational Journey
CMU Here I Come!
I had always dreamed of being an elementary school teacher. I loved kids and wanted to make a difference in their lives. CMU was the perfect fit for me: it was far enough from home to gain some independence but still close enough that I could go visit mom and dad anytime.

CMU was great!
I lived in the dorms, had some awesome roommates, and gained the freshman 15.
I lived in an off campus apartment, took summer classes, and ate a lot of mac and cheese.

I met all the requirements, passed the interview and was accepted into the teaching program.
I had some amazing professors, I learned a lot, and I met a guy that lived out of town.

3+ years into my education at CMU, I had concluded teaching was not for me.
I dropped out and moved to Florida with the guy I had met.

While in Florida I got married, had a son, and worked a few different jobs trying to find my calling. Nothing seemed right and I was homesick.

It was so good to be back home with family- especially with a 3 month old baby!
I got a job as a waitress and three years after moving home we had a daughter. Soon after that, got a divorce.

Enough is Enough
I decided being a waitress was not all that my life had in store for me.
In 2001 my job search ended with a part-time job as a teller at a credit union.

The banking industry is exactly where I was meant to be.
In the last 18 years, I have held the following positions at the same credit union:
Part-Time Teller
Full-Time Teller
Receptionist
Accounting Specialist
and am currently the
Accounting Manager.

Back to School
Once I was promoted to the accounting department, I went back to college. At first, it was just to take a couple accounting classes but that plan soon turned into an Associates in Accounting degree from Delta College earned in 2014.

Why Stop There?
After a two year break from school, I decided to continue my education.
I am currently working full time and taking 2 classes a semester toward my Bachelors Degree in Accounting with the Northwood 3+1 program.
Next step: CFO
I wanted to show my kids that with hard work and dedication anything can be accomplished.
I wanted them to see that it is OK to not have everything figured out after high school and that there will be bumps along the road.
I needed them to know it is never too late and you will never be too old to learn.
Most importantly, I wanted my kids to be proud of their mom.
