SILF

School Internet Laboratory of pHysics

SILF

  • Not only a laboratory, but also a framework for building one
  • Students perform experiments using their browsers
    • Connecting to real hardware

Why silf is Unique

No client application

  • Only HTML5 enabled browser
  • Not only desktop browsers!
    • Works on Adroid (FireFox tested)

Metadata driven

  • Experiment server sends metadata to the client
    • Rest is generated on the fly
  • Upgrading servers is seamless

Cooperation oriented

  • Single student can change experiment settings
  • Others can watch and get results
    • Downloading the results will be implemented in the future
  • Students can chat (to be implemented in near future)

Standard and protocol oriented

  • Wherever possible we use standards
  • Messages are routed by the XMPP server
  • Whole communication is documented

Modular

  • Each part of the system can be replaced separately
    • You can develop own client
    • Or own experiments

Cameras

  • Each experiment has integrated camera
    • For now we use our own protocol
    • But consider changing to webRTC emerging standard

To be Fixed

Under Developement

  • Not a mature project
    • But team is mature and experienced--- it's our second laboratory!
  • We are under developement
    • Essential features missing but will be there in time
