WHAT IS GO?

A little bit of history

  • Originated in China during Zhou Dinasty 2500 years ago
  • Spread to Korea and Japan in 500 AD and 700 AD 

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY

  • Over 70million players worldwide 
  • International Go Federation with more than 70 countries


Basic rules

  • Objective: to surround more territory than your adversary
  • Stones/Groups must have at least one liberty 
  • Or they are captured 
  • Stones form "Chains" or groups when connected by the lines of the board 

BASIC RULES

  • "Ko rule": Players are not allowed to make a move that returns the game to the previous position 
  • A player may pass. If the two players pass the game ends and has to be scored
  • Score is calculated counting captured stones and empty areas surrounded by each player own stones
