He was friends with Arnold Rothstein, who had bootlegging and gambling rackets all over New York.
An illegal speakeasy
Luciano quickly rose to power eventually taking over the top spot of the Masseria family, after Marazano gave him the spot.
Marazano saw Luciano as a threat, but Luciano took him out before Marazano could act.

With his rival dead, Luciano wanted to change the way gangs did business. He soon became the head of the city's five families.
Eventually spreading out to Chicago's Al Capone, then leading a national crime syndicate. Where they shipped liquor, narcotics, and guns
