SAP EHSM Incident Management
An employee is working on the warehouse sorting out some containers to properly identify them and store them in the correct warehouse rack. Suddenly a colleague driving a fork lift is backing out from an unseen place and the car hits the employee sorting out the containers.
The employee is hurt, liquid was spilled on the floor and the forklift was also damaged. This incident must now be recorded using SAP incident management and the proper follow up must take place to prevent future events.
SAP provides workflow templates to support the reporting process, these templates can be adapted to support business requirements; the Incident Manager is the central role that monitors, reviews, and ensures that all associated activities within an incident are completed.
For our example a unique role/user will execute all tasks to expedite the process but in reality steps might be executed by different people.
1.Solution should provide details at the plant level but system should provide the option to rolled up information to allow for corporate reporting
a.Some Plants want to have granularity to enter incidents and accidents associated with components of equipment or work areas specific to their locations but this needs to be optional
SAP provides the option to enter details of the equipment (if any) affected during the incident. The equipment step when reporting the event can be skipped altogether if there is no need to declare any data for this option, users can directly select the option ‘Next’ when reporting the incident in the ‘Process Guided Activity’.
If users have the need to report details on the equipment , then the tab can be used and populated as required, this tab integrates with the technical objects of Plant maintenance. The only mandatory field in the section is the ‘Equipment description’ which is a free text field.
b. Corporate doesn’t care about the equipment specifics. They are interested in categorizing incidents/accidents at a more general level that apply to all locations
SAP offers the option to enter higher level details to categorize the incident such as the organizational ID and the plant associated to the incident/accident. In addition to this, SAP allows the option of specifying the injury/illness classification in the system, and this can be tailored depending on customer needs to provide the required options, this is a configuration setting.
2.There is interest in learning how SAP Incident/Accident Management processes incidents and reports. The team would like to know if the solution is capable of handling events and metrics.
SAP provides guided activity process for users to report incidents/ accidents, near miss and Safety observations. Workflow tool is used to enable the process to manage and monitor incidents. The incident manager is responsible to process, gather additional incident information, financial tracking, risk estimation, investigation and reporting to authorities, all of this in coordination with other company resources. All events all related information are centrally stored in the incident record. SAP provides dashboards with statistical details and KPI information, below find available standard dashboards available.
