Trust the Farmer

Isaiah 28:23-29
Isaiah 28:23 Give ear and hear my voice, Listen and hear my words.
24 Does the farmer plow continually to plant seed? Does he continually turn and harrow the ground?
25 Does he not level its surface And sow dill and scatter cummin And plant wheat in rows, Barrley in its place and rye within its area?
26 For his God instructs and teaches him properly.
27 For dill is not threshed with a threshing sledge, Nor is the cartwheel driven over cummin; But dill is beaten out with a rod, and cummin with a club.
28 Grain for bread is crushed, Indeed, he does not continue to thresh it forever. Because the wheel of his cart and his horses eventually damage it, He does not thresh it longer.
29 This also comes from the LORD of hosts, Who has made His counsel wonderful and His wisdom great.

Something We Need to Hear (vv. 23, 29)
23 Give ear and hear my voice,
Listen and hear my words.
...
29 This also comes from the Lord of hosts,
'who gives supernatural guidance and imparts great wisdom.'

A Good Farmer Does Necessary Things for the Necessary Amount of Time (v. 24)
24 Does the farmer plow continually to plant seed?
Does he continually turn and harrow the ground?
“Ecclesiastes 3:1 For everything there is an appointed time, and an appropriate time for every activity on earth:
3:2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to uproot what was planted; 3:3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up….”

A Good Farmer Does Necessary Things for the Necessary Amount of Time (v. 24)
-God allows difficulties and ease for different amounts of time.
-We also must recognize there are different times for different things.

A good farmer plants different things in different places using different methods (v. 25)
25 Does he not level its surface
And sow dill and scatter cummin
And plant wheat in rows,
Barley in its place and rye within its area?

A good farmer plants different things in different places using different methods (v. 25)
That something different is growing in someone else's life does not mean there is injustice.

A good farmer recognizes ancient wisdom (v. 26)
"For his God instructs and teaches him properly."

A good farmer recognizes ancient wisdom (v. 26)
We must trust that God is currently acting in wisdom.

A good farmer does not use appropriate methods inappropriately (v. 27)
27 For dill is not threshed with a threshing sledge,
Nor is the cartwheel driven over cumin;
But dill is beaten out with a rod, and cumin with a club.

A good farmer does not use appropriate methods inappropriately (v. 27)
The painful things God allows in our lives, He has somehow deemed appropriate.
Can we trust Him?

A good farmer remembers the goal (v. 28)
28 Grain for bread is crushed,
Indeed, he does not continue to thresh it forever.
Because the wheel of his cart and his horses eventually damage it,
He does not thresh it longer.

A good farmer remembers the goal (v. 28)
What is the goal of your life?

A good farmer remembers the goal (v. 28)
At times, we must be willing to crush what we love in order to allow God to bake His glory from our lives.
We can trust God to glorify Himself as He farms our lives.
We can trust God to glorify Himself as He farms our lives.
He is working wisely during every season.
He is working wisely during every season.
What feels bad can lead to good.
We can trust God to glorify Himself as He farms our lives.
“This is just the mark of difference between the Christian and the worldling. The worldling blesses God while he gives him plenty, but the Christian blesses him when he smites him: he believes him to be too wise to err and too good to be unkind; he trusts him where he cannot trace him, looks up to him in the darkest hour, and believes that all is well. O Christian, if your heart is right, you will understand this spiritual satisfaction, and your soul will be satisfied in times of drought.” --CH Spurgeon
He is working during every season.
What feels bad can lead to good.
What is unequal is not unjust.
We can trust God to glorify Himself as He farms our lives.
-He is working during every season.
-What feels bad can lead to good.
-What is unequal is not unjust.
-He often asks us to crush what we love to allow Him to cook toward His goal.
We can trust God to glorify Himself as He farms our lives.
