See God; See Me

Isaiah 6:1-7

God is love (1 Jo 4:8).
God is “compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness and faithfulness” (Ex 34:6).
God is our provider (Phil 4:19).
God is our helper (Heb 13:6).
See God; See Me

Isaiah 6:1-7
Isaiah 6:1 In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple.
2 Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
3 And one called out to another and said,
“Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts,
The whole earth is full of His glory.”
4 And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke.
5 Then I said,
“Woe is me, for I am ruined!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I live among a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.”
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal in his hand, which he had taken from the altar with tongs.
7 He touched my mouth with it and said, “Behold, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away and your sin is forgiven.”

Isaiah Sees God (vv. 1-3)
1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2 Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”

The Earth Responds (v. 4)
4 At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

Isaiah Sees Himself (v. 5)
5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.”

God Responds (vv. 6-7)
6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”
We still need to "see" God.
We still need to "see" God.
"People pursue what their hearts find most beautiful." --Jonathan Edwards (paraphrase)
We need to "see" God.
We need to see ourselves in light of God.
We need to "see" God.
We need to see ourselves in light of God.
We need God to do a work of purification on us.
We need to "see" God.
We need to see ourselves in light of God.
We need God to do a work of purification on us.
We need to take God at His word when He says we are forgiven.
"We are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared believe,
yet, at the very same time,
we are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope."
