Ephesians 5:18-21
“Wisdom is the power to see, and the inclination to choose, the best and highest goal, together with the surest means of attaining it” (J.I. Packer).
Ephesians 5:18-21
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,
19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord;
20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;
21 and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.

It is Not Wise to Get Drunk (v. 18a)
18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery.
Proverbs 3:9-10: “Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine."
Numbers 28:7 - "The accompanying drink offering is to be a quarter of a hin of fermented drink with each lamb. Pour out the drink offering to the LORD at the sanctuary."
Matthew 11:18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon!’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look at him, a glutton and a drunk, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’

It is Wise to be Filled by the Holy Spirit

Being Filled by the Holy Spirit Impacts the Way We Talk (vv. 18b-19)
