Behavior is essentially anything that animals do in response to their environment.

Animals engage in behaviors for four basic purposes:

1. to find their basic needs
2. to avoid predation
3. to reproduce and interact socially
4. to maintain health and resist diseases.

These purposes for behavior can be remembered using the acronym “FARM”.
