Probability

What is probability? Probability is another way of saying 'what are the chances of this happening?'

We use probability all the time in maths and it is often linked with ratio.

What do they mean by saying a 0.5 chance? or 1/2 chance?

In a question, when it says something like; 'John hasĀ  a 0.5 chance of pulling out a blue ball' they are saying that half the balls to choose from must be blue.

i.e. there are 10 red balls in a bag and 10 blue balls. What is the probability that John will pull out a blue?

Dice investigation.

Probability is often hypothetical. So hypothetically, what is the probability of rolling a 1 when you roll a dice?

How about if you rolled a dice 60 times?

120 times?

How are we calculating the probability each time?

Today we are going to do this investigation all together.
