DMS373: Midterm Update

March 4, 2015

Updates
- Public Safety Directors are on-board all the way!
- They gave us approval for live testing
- We can proceed with the van
- Now own saferide.sa.rochester.edu
- blah blah
Reminder of Safe Ride problems
- •One rider usually drops, doesn’t get picked up because of waiting too long
•Usually do 50 to 60 miles
•About 20 to 25 trips
•
•Students don’t know when it’s coming
•Have to call
•At least one rider gets dropped each trip
Dispatcher UI Enhancements
•“Incoming Requests” and “Completed Requests” per day
•Drag and drop so it’s up to the dispatcher
•Working on an algorithm that will sort the requests by weight
–Three variables determine the priority: # of passengers, pick up weight, drop off weight
–I.e., if your request has 3 passengers, it will be prioritized over a ride that has only 1 passenger

Moving Forward
•Improved filtering on requests
•NetID authentication will be done by next week (we had some Heroku problems with it)
•We will start working on the tablet, which will be Rails based again so that it can integrate with the site
•Continue working on the video and will publicize the live testing
